Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is full of beautiful paintings and art treasures. Claudia decided this would be the perfect hideaway place. They hid their clothes around the museum so they wouldn't get caught. Visit the Metropolitan Museum website and discover all the art it has inside since it's too far away for a field trip!

As you are searching the website, I want you to find 1 piece of art or sculpture you like. Amswer the following:
1. What is the name of the piece?

2. What is the name of the artist?

3. What year it was made?

4. Where the piece is from?

5. Tell the section of museum you found the piece of art.

6. Describe what the piece looks like in 1-2 sentences.

Please make sure I can clearly tell which answer go to what question.
Have fun exploring!

Welcome to Our Blog

12/19/2011

For some writing in a blog may be a different experience that usual.  This blog is intended for our classroom and to help with any questions.  There are a few items to remember when writing online, they are:
*stick to the topic being discussed and give details answering the question or comment
*keep it a positive environment
*remember spelling counts and to not use slang words
*everything you write needs to be signed by you
*what you write is placed on the world wide web
*if you have questions, just ask your teacher!

We will start to use this as a tool in our class.  There will be some lessons that I post a question and ask for your thoughts.  It is different to other chat formats and each comment is posted below the previous one.  If you wish to comment on another's, just refer to their name and be detailed in what you are discussing.

Over all remember to have fun and ask questions!

So, I am dying to know what your opinions were of Fever 1793.  Did you like it? What didn't you like?  Did you learn anything?  What are some pros and cons (good and bad things) about doing a class read aloud?  Anything you would change?

Please be clear and please give me as much imput as possible!

Thanks,

Mrs. Singer

P.S. I felt it went really well and was a different experience for most of you.  I liked that Fever 1793 presented information on our nation's history and you could visualize different scenes.  Overall I felt like most of you enjoyed Fever 1793.  I didn't like that some of you zoned out.  Next time I would add guiding questions because it could help you guys follow along and get the basics.

As we have continues to read Fever 1793, I would like to hear your opinons.  Please tell me your favorite thing so far and what you think will happen.  Please include details to support your opinions.

Be sure to write in complete sentences and with complete thoughts.

Fever 1793

11/9/2010

As we continue reading Fever 1793, I would like you to think of these questions:

1) Mattie's grandfather didn't think there was any need to rush out of Philadelphia when the fever started to spread.  Why did some people think it was safe to stay?  What would you have done?

2) At the end of chapter 8, a man dumped the body of woman off at the side of the road.  Mattie yelled, "Mother!"  Who do you think this woman is and what do you think happened to her?

Please take a moment to answer these questions and remember only include your first name!

*Eat breakfast or bring a morning snack
*Come prepared with #2 pencils
*Take their time on the tests
*Try their best and not be nervous
*Use the strategies we discussed in class and our video

If you have other suggestions, please feel free to add them under our comment sections

Welcome to our 6th grade blog.  This year is different than past educational years.  Your student has begun the transition to middle school.  We got our lockers with combinations, have passing times, and the expectations are even higher.  I understand there will be good and bad days.  Days will be easy and hard.  Even with that, this year you will develop a variety of skills that are used in the rest of your life.

Please remember that within our classroom and our entire staff at Lakewood is a part of your support system.  This year your parent/guardian(s) have received information on bullying.  Remember that school should be a safe place and there is no bullying allowed in our classroom or our school.

Our school’s motto this year is “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow.”  I believe the knowledge and skills learned this year and in your upcoming years are going to allow you to be a leader of our future.  With this in mind, you are expected to take responsibility for your education and make the most of school.
