Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some frequently asked questions about 6th grade. If you have any questions that are not listed below, please email me at [email protected]. Depending on the questions, I will most likely add them to the list.
What is our 6th grade fundraiser?
We do a Health Walk Fundraiser in the early fall of the school year. The students are asked to get pledges to walk from Lakewood School to Bassett and back, totaling 4 miles. We ask that each student try to raise $75 or more in pledges, but understand if they are unable to receive that amount or choose not to fundraise.
How is the fundraising money split?
Every student that comes reasonably within our goal(s) receives a discount on our field trips. The discount is only given to those who complete the fundraising/pledges of $75. If a student does not fundraise, they will not receive a discount on our 3 field trips. We put into a classroom fund (slush fund) and divide it accordingly for the costs of students who fundraised.
What are the field trips and how much do they cost?
Our first field trip is to Medieval Times and is approximately $50. We usually go during the month of February. Our second field trip is to Camp Wonderland and the cost without fundraising is about $80. Our final field trip is to the Timber Ridge Waterpark and costs about $18 per person.
What is MAPs Testing?
MAPs stand for Measures of Academic Progress. The testing takes place on the computer with multiple choice questions and adjusts according to the student’s answers. It shows a student’s individual knowledge in Math, Reading, and Language Arts. These tests are done in the Fall and Spring. MAPs are able to display student progress over the years and also plot out different learning paths. They are used as a tool to find areas of strengths and weaknesses for students as well.
